Based on the classic Hollywood Western Destry Rides Again, this musical tells the story of Thomas Jefferson Destry Jr., a violence-hating sheriff, and his feisty love-interest, a saloon entertainer known as Frenchy. Set in the frontier town of Bottleneck, the play features classic confrontations between good and evil in such equally classic locales as the Last Chance Saloon.

Destry Rides Again premiered at the Imperial Theatre on April 23, 1959 and ran for 473 performances. The original cast featured Andy Griffith as Destry and Dolores Gray as Frenchy.
